Deleting your account
You can delete your Golf Buds account at any time, in the app or by email. This page explains both, how long you have to change your mind, and what is removed and what is kept.
Delete your account in the app
Section titled “Delete your account in the app”-
Open the Profile tab and tap Delete my account. The next screen explains what happens and what we keep.
-
If you want a copy of your data, tap Download my data in the Before you go card first.
-
Tap Delete my account at the bottom of the screen.
-
Golf Buds asks you to confirm. Tap Delete account to go ahead, or Keep my account to stop.
The confirmation reads:
Delete your account? Your profile disappears from Golf Buds now. After 14 days your name, photo, email and handicap are permanently removed. Sign back in before then to cancel.
Once you confirm, Golf Buds signs you out on every device and shows Account scheduled for deletion.
Ask us to delete it by email
Section titled “Ask us to delete it by email”If you cannot use the app, email support@golfbuds.co.uk from the email address on your Golf Buds account. Tell us that you want your account deleted, your display name, and how you sign in, for example with Google or with an email address and password.
If your account has no email address, or you cannot write from it, say so and we will ask you to confirm the account is yours before we act. We will reply within one month, then start the deletion for you. The same rules apply as in the app, including the grace period below.
What happens next
Section titled “What happens next”Your profile disappears from Golf Buds straight away. Rounds you are hosting are cancelled, and you leave any upcoming rounds you have joined.
You then have 14 days to change your mind. Sign back in during that time and your account is restored, although the cancelled and left rounds do not come back.
After 14 days, the deletion is finalised and Golf Buds removes:
- your name, photo, email address and handicap, and the rest of your profile
- every sign-in method connected to your account, and any photo imported from Google, Facebook or GitHub
- your connections and the blocks you placed
- your posts and likes
- your notifications and notification settings
- your feature access and any data export files
If you signed in with Apple, we also revoke your Apple token with Apple and delete it.
What we keep
Section titled “What we keep”When you delete your account, five kinds of record are kept, shown against the name “Deleted golfer”:
- Rounds you played stay in other golfers’ history, shown as “Deleted golfer”.
- Messages you sent stay in round chats, shown as “Deleted golfer”.
- Comments you left on other golfers’ posts stay, shown as “Deleted golfer”.
- Reports and moderation records about your account are kept, so deleting can’t erase them.
- Reports you filed about other golfers stay open, without your name on them.
We keep these for safety and moderation, and so other golfers’ playing history stays true. They have no fixed end date: each lasts as long as the round, post or report it belongs to. Chat messages are still removed 24 hours after tee time, like every other message.
Get a copy of your data first
Section titled “Get a copy of your data first”You can download your data at any time, whether or not you delete your account. On the Delete my account screen, tap Download my data in the Before you go card. Golf Buds gives you a private link to the file, which works for 24 hours.
